Official Call for Volunteers

Volunteering is a great way to be involved in the IHC 2014

Volunteering brings to life human values of community. Through volunteering activities individuals can exercise their responsibilities as member of communities while working together to shape collective challenges. In Australia 4.4 million people over the age of 18 are involved in volunteering.

We are looking for up to 150 dedicated volunteers to assist us.

Applications are open from 6 June -7 July 2014.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for volunteers who have the time, commitment and passion to help us deliver this international event. If you are student or semi-retired, people person, hard working, reliable and culturally sensitive, then you should apply.

What roles are available?

1. IHC 2014 Volunteers

We are seeking volunteers to support IHC delegates by MeetnGreet liaison at the Brisbane international and domestic airports, staff for AskMe information teams, linguists and time keepers for electronic poster presentations.

What do we require from you?
To apply for the above roles you will need to be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Be available to work between 13 - 22 August 2014.
  • Attend training/orientation sessions in July and August prior to the Congress.
  • Able to take care of your own travel arrangements

2. IHC 2014 Tours Volunteer

We are also seeking volunteers to assist with congress tours. To showcase the quality and diversity of horticulture within the region, we are organising 9 different technical tours. Volunteers are required to assist with logistics of allocating tour participants onto transportation in a timely and effective manner.

What do we require from you?
The duties required with the above role are;

  • Team 1: Marshalling for passenger assembly area
  • Team 2: Passenger check – Boarding/checking tickets and cross checking attendance lists
  • Team 3: Loading team – Provisions/equipment

You must be available:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to take care of your own travel arrangements
  • Thursday 21 August 2014 (pineapple tour)
  • Friday 22 August 2014 (turf tour)
  • Saturday 23 August 2014 (remaining 7 tours)
  • 7.00am arrival - 9.00am or until last coach dispatched

3. IHC 2014 Horticulture Displays Volunteer

The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre will be decorated with a spectacular horticultural installation and displays. Volunteers for this team must be fit and willing to undertake physical labour such as shifting and lifting potted plants.

What do we require from you?
To apply for the above role you will need to be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to take care of your own travel arrangements
  • Available to work Sunday 17 and/or Friday 22 August 2014
  • Available to work from 7am – approximately 4pm. Friday 22 August 2014 from 3pm
  • Fit and willing to under physical labour

For an event of this scale, we certainly could not accomplish all of our goals without a dedicated and talented group of volunteers. This is the Official IHC 2014 Call for Volunteers.

  1. All volunteers MUST register via the online forms herein.
  2. Travel and/or accommodation are at own expense.
  3. Volunteering does not include the entitlement of access to the IHC Congress Scientific or Social Programs. If you wish to attend sessions or social events at IHC 2014 please register as a delegate via the registration portal.
  4. Any pre-existing arrangements and/or agreements are considered null and void.
